A Bas-Relief postage stamp, printed in 1971, was a world’s first for the Government of Bhutan. The process originated in Italy and took five years to develop. The stamps have a sculptural effect, giving the subject matter depth and dimension. These are the world’s first 100% plastic stamps. They are single-trimmed and printed by a four-color lithography method. The individual stamps were placed in a hand-engraved stainless steel pressure heat mold and pressed into small reproductions of sculptures (Issue: February 27, 1971) and of famous men of the world (Issue: 1972). |
