Jigme Dorji Wangchuck, who passed away in 1972. King Jigme Dorji Wangchuck sought to preserve Bhutan’s sacred heritage and culture, yet helped pave the way for progress in education and economic development as he introduced the kingdom to the world beginning in the 1960’s.
